gyl turner original paintings

My name is Gyl. Yes, that is my first name and it isn't short for anything...just Gyl.  I am the third daughter of my parents so I got my dad's name only spelled differently.   His name being Gilbert.  It was a challenging name growing up, as you can imagine, but I have grown into it and now embrace it proudly.  I was born in Pennsylvania in 1967 and moved to Alabama when I was five years old.  I have been living in the good ole South ever since.  I love it here.  The people are friendly, the seasons change beautifully and I am close to family.

I began painting in 2013 on a complete whim.  I had never put paint to canvas in my life until a day in 2013 when I bought this little painting "starter kit" as I lovingly refer to it now.  I looked up on YouTube some random Aspen tree tutorial and fell madly in love with painting.  I became immediately addicted.  I seriously could not stop painting.  I had a set up in my garage on a workbench.  I bought more paint.... canvases and entered my first show less than a month later.  Looking back, I can't believe I had the nerve to put myself out there like that. But I did and I am so thankful.  Painting has given me a great challenge, an outlet to freely express myself and it's unexplainably fun!

Currently, I have a studio in my home where I try and paint on a daily basis.  I travel to many different art shows each year in several states with my better half.  My goal is to grow my show list and become a better, more accomplished artist each year.

I thank you for taking the time to read about me and I appreciate all who take the time to view my works.
